Our next A la Carte Dining evening from Head Chef Andrew Gavin, will be held on the evening of Saturday 9 March from 7pm onwards. Once again this is another of our popular 3-2-1 night with the cost at £25pp including sharing a bottle of wine between two. Bookings are now being taken at the bar. … and tell your friends and neighbours as Crow Wood is a publicly licensed facility with all functions open to the public as well as members.

Winter Rules in play from 1 November

Winter Golf rules and guidelines

The greens committee have decided that the full course will be kept open through the winter season, weather dependant, to allow members  and visitors to make use of all our facilities.

We are requesting that members, social groups and visitors help keep the impact on the course to a minimum by adopting the following

  1. Greens will be in play all winter. Please ensure you repair any pitch mark, please encourage others to do likewise
  2. Bunkers should be used on a “rake and place” basis
  3. Fairways will be in play; however, we will suggest to members that they please adopt the following guide lines or similar to help minimise damage

o Use mats in fairway or move ball to rough

Alternatively, you may

Play from fairway and ensure any divot created is replaced or repaired

Use a tee peg (this of course should be in line with the shot which would normally be played, not an opportunity to get the driver out)

  1. Preferred lies will be in place through the green, player may lift, clean and place within 6 inches to where ball lies. (as we are asking traffic to use the rough then it is deemed fair and sensible to have preferred lies everywhere)
  2. If a ball is lost under leaves a player may without penalty, place a ball as close as possible to where the original ball lay
  3. If a ball is lost in abnormal ground conditions, i.e. very wet areas, a player may without penalty, place a ball as close as possible to where the original ball lay.

N.B. The players playing partners have to agree that the ball is certain or virtually certain to be covered by 5 or 6.

General Items

  • Tees (white, yellow) will be situated alongside or close to each other, some areas will have mats in place
  • This will localise traffic thus damage and make recovery during spring quicker and easier
  • Winter wheels will be required on powered trolleys
  • All trolleys, buggies and ride on carts are requested to travel, where possible, through the rough
  • Sensitive areas will be roped off to keep all traffic away from them
  • We will paint white lines approx. 10 metres in front of green to keep traffic off (play your ball as per item 3)

Your Patience and Support required

Despite a great deal of effort this spring and summer not all of the areas we have sanded / seeded have taken the way we would have liked. Strange as it sounds for Scotland, the hot dry spell did not help.

On Monday 13th Aug a team of volunteers giving up a few hours of their time have prepared and seeded following areas
• 5th at back of green to 10th fairway and across 10th fairway to 11th tee
• 7th along fairway at drainage channel
• 8th around green to 9th tee
• 18th fairway at road and between bunkers
We would like to keep as much traffic as possible off of these areas for the next 2 to 4 weeks.
On the 10th, 7th and 8th we have roped off the areas and have created traffic routes.
The whole area roped off is not GUR, simply to keep traffic off whilst the seeds germinate.
We would also like players to leave trolleys, buggies etc outside the roped off area , select club and go under ropes to play their ball . Taking as much care as possible to avoid walking on the repaired areas.
The areas inside the roped off sections which are GUR are those areas which have been seeded and are clearly obvious. The normal rules apply, lift and drop.
We do appreciate this is an inconvenience, however it will only be for a few weeks.

Other areas of the course are blue painted for GUR

For the next two weeks we intend to finalise our seeding requirements by working on other areas.
1. Area surrounding Tee at 11th will have turf (cut from practise area) put in place
2. The 16th fairway top and bottom
3. At road at 4th and also fairway
4. Over the road at the 2nd
5. Driving Range bank on the right hand site
6. All divots on tees and fairways
Can we ask anyone who may have a few hours to spare on the Mondays, light snack at lunchtime will be provided (or any other day of the week) to please let us know by contacting Ian Doig, Stuart Whitters, Andy Russel,Neil McGill or Gary Divers.
